Overview

This manual is written for people who want to turn drone aerial imagery into orthomosaics, digital surface models (DSM), NDVI maps or variable-rate application maps — whether across many projects per season or just an occasional survey. Typical users include:

  • Drone-spray service providers flying DJI Agras / XAG / ABZ Innovation drones who need precise application maps for effective zone-based spraying
  • Precision farmers making NDVI-based decisions on their own fields
  • Commercial drone surveyors producing orthomosaics and PDF reports for their clients

No prior GIS expertise is assumed; the technical terms are explained in the Glossary.

The manual is split into four main parts:

Getting started. System requirements, installation, and a 10-minute walkthrough that gets your first project finished.

Customer portal (my.dronefield.app). Everything that happens in the web interface — registration, subscriptions, coupons, invoices.

Desktop application. Every feature of the DroneField desktop program: projects, image import, field boundaries, processing, vegetation indices, application maps, reports, settings.

Troubleshooting and glossary. Common problems with step-by-step solutions; and short explanations of technical terms.

We use the following notation throughout:

  • Menu items and buttons are shown in bold (e.g. Start).
  • A path like File > New project… refers to a menu route.
  • ⌘N denotes a keyboard shortcut (see Keyboard shortcuts).
  • Folder and file names are in monospace, e.g. ~/DroneField/.

If you get stuck, first check the Troubleshooting page. If you can’t find your issue there, write to us via the my.dronefield.app portal’s support form — attach a screenshot of the error message and the contents of the Settings → Diagnostics panel; that gets us a fix faster.
